How I joined Balyolu…


So I am currently getting my MBA, and our director, Zeynep Gürhan Canlı, is very much devoted to incorporate CSR and social ventures into the program. That was one of the reasons I decided to go to Koç University. Several months ago, I enthusiastically signed up for an independent study led by Georgia Tech University’s Joy Rogers. There were several projects we could pick from, but I really heard only one: Balyolu (meaning Honey Road in Turkish), this little project organizing nomadic honey tasting tours in Northeastern Turkey to train local women in entrepreneurship, marketing and story telling.

After 3 years of slaving away in the corporate world, I jumped at the chance to do something good while in school. I would soon discover that this start-up and its wonderful founder, Cat Jaffee, would be in my life to stay…
